I am Tim Cocrane and I am the Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) at Potomac Falls High School. This is my 5th year serving in this capacity at PFHS. Previously, I spent 2 years working as an AT for Fairfax County Public Schools. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Longwood University in 2011 and Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2013.
One of my special interests is in sport-related concussion (SRC). For the last five years I have worked with county administration to update our concussion management protocol to match current research in the areas of evaluation, diagnosis, and management of SRC. I also received my ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainer certification to enhance my knowledge of this condition. If you have any questions about SRC or future research please contact me.
Another aspect of my job that I enjoy working with our Athletic Training Student Aides. This program gives students the opportunity to get hands-on experience learning about the profession of athletic training and the umbrella of sports medicine. I work closely with student aides to teach them about anatomy & physiology, first aid, injury evaluation, nutrition, rehabilitation, exercise physiology and therapeutic modalities. Student aides utilize their knowledge in the Athletic Training Room and during games/competition to provide care for our student-athletes. If your child is interested, please ask them to contact me.
Most days, I arrive at school around 2 PM and the Athletic Training Room opens for evaluations and injury treatment at 4:03 PM unless there is a special consideration (concussion evaluation/follow up, extensive rehabilitation, parent meeting, etc).
